integrate with Active Directory & LDAP
Can OpenAsset integrate with my Intranet?
Yes, there a number of ways in which OpenAsset can
integrate with your Intranet.
Can I provide the hardware?
Yes, you can provide the hardware for OpenAsset.
What are the minimum hardware requirements?
The following outlines the recommended minimum hardware,
which should be sufficient for up to 100 users.
-
3.0GHz Pentium 4 or Xeon
-
2GB Ram
Hard disk capacity depends on your company's particular requirements,
but we strongly recommend hardware disk redundancy (e.g. RAID 1 or 5).
If you wish, we can prepare a detailed specification and quote from our
supplier.
What are the Operating System requirements?
OpenAsset will seamlessly run on Windows, Mac or Linux.
The following table outlines the platforms we support:
-
Windows
Windows Server 2000
Windows Server 2003
-
Mac
OS X Server 10.3
OS X Server 10.4
OS X Server 10.5
-
Linux
Redhat Enterprise Linux
Fedora
Ubuntu
SUSE Linux Enterprise
Debian
CentOS
We highly recommend Linux for overall cost, stability and security
and can provide a dedicated version free of charge.
How do I backup OpenAsset?
Backing up OpenAsset can be done in the following two ways:
-
A client program for your backup system runs on the OpenAsset server.
For example Arcserve, Veritas Backup Exec and Retrospect all provide
Windows, Mac & Linux clients. This is our recommended method
-
Shared network folders are provided by the OpenAsset server using
protocols such as Samba (aka CIFS) or AFP. These network folders are
included in your backup path
We would recommend backing up OpenAsset once per day.
There are two areas which have to be backed up:
-
The directory containing the Asset files (all the JPGs etc)
-
SQL database contents as a single ZIP file.
OpenAsset is usually configured to generate this once per day
Can OpenAsset run on a machine with other servers?
Yes, but we would recommend not running OpenAsset on a machine with
mission critical applications, e.g. an email server. OpenAsset will
compete for memory and processing power when it is converting images.
The marginal cost of running OpenAsset on a dedicated machine is small
for a typical hardware setup, and we recommend making the investment.
